However, others place more emphasis on studying and practicing disciplines like science, the arts, technology, engineering, and so on. In this essay, I aim to analyze both perspectives objectively before drawing a rational conclusion.
The first perspective suggests that learning history involves studying and memorizing important dates, names of historic figures, events, causes, and results. Some argue that people only study history to pass exams or satisfy their curiosity, which holds little relevance in the current world. The importance of understanding how ancient people survived is insignificant, and the relevance of earlier inventions has minimal bearing on the development of new inventions.
On the other hand, history offers an opportunity to learn about past societies, cultures, significant events, and the results of significant decisions, wars, and social transformations. It is widely acknowledged that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Therefore, the benefit of studying history is to prepare for the future. By dissecting past wars and conflicts, humanity can avoid similar mistakes in the future. Similarly, communities in vulnerable areas can prepare themselves by knowing the magnitude of the impacts of natural disasters in ancient times.
In conclusion, both perspectives hold true to a certain extent within their own context. Therefore, the decision to give importance to history or other disciplines should be made based on the individual's situation.
